  1. hi,
starting to this topic i would like to say that students join colleges to learn the things,to apply their creativity in the education and etc.
Definitely if we talk about the content of the course what i personally think is the best person will be the vet in the related field because he already had done lot of research in that field or have valuable experiance in that field.
if allow students to change the contents of the course then are they students?
if they know everything then why they join or study the professional courses?
last but not least we can definitely consider views or suggestions from students regarding the content of the course.
    what u say?

  2. Even being a student i dnt agree wid d idea that students shud get d authority of changin d course content. students can definitely pour in suggestions as in wat new addition can b made in d syllabus. i agree wid my frnd above dat if students themselves know evrything then wat is d need to go to college n study, a better option wil b learn it urself wat u wish like n no need to pay a lakh rupee fees n reserving a seat too...even dat does'nt really mean dat u refer to an outdated syllabus , some changes r essential to keep urself ahead in d race of to b managers...but anyway this is jus a school of thought dat 1 day students wil hav d power to change d curriculum. To get rid of outdated content, wat students can do is take up external projects,(wid big cos.) industrial visits which wil make them aware of d current market scenario. well it is always gud to pamper urself wid wat ur professors say.. cos if students take up dis authority then it wil b only CHAOS n poor professors wil b bewildered as in wat is their need anymore???

  3. It seems to be a good idea students having control on syllabus. Every subject has two aspects, here also if full control is given to students then there are pros & cons.
    We first go with pros,
    1. students will be given more freedom to select the subjects.
    2. students may change the outdated syllabus.
    3. studies will be more practical oriented.
    4. content will be narrowed down to the interest level of students.
Now, we will go for cons,
    1. the syllabus decision will be a mess.
    2. the studies start with particular direction so the career options will be limited.
    3. the syllabus will be set by current trends so some fields which are not on swing on that point may die down.
    4. the common base which is provided now for studies giving introductory set of knowledge will be considered as outdated & will get changed.
    5. the teacher manpower will be less if there are various sets of contents. so study will become self-study type.
So, in my observation the cons are more than pros. But the idea can not be neglected. Rather than this, the golden center will be inclusion of 30-40% of students in syllabus setting committee.

  4. How we can say "Students should be allowed to change the contents of their course", because how students can design their own couse of study? they r there to learn not to design their syllabus. The syllabus shall be designed by experienced professionals from various industries & institutes, because they are aware what kind of syllbus is required for Industries?

Definitely it is possible that the syllabus committee must take the feedback & suggestions from students, but it is not possible to ask students to design their own syllabus, it will create mess in syllabus design.

  5. I do agree that if allowed then students can opt for their choice of subject but there are many thing which the universit/ college course offer you and many areas that the students are unaware of, so it will definately create a mess if we asked to do it.
As usually seen in school students that history is the only subject which people hate the most but if given a choice and removed then the students wont be having the knowledge or the base of the past of any of the events taken place earlier

  6. The students are still in the learning process of the decision making, so they are not yet capable of taking the responsibility of deciding the courses curriculum. The students are already under pressure of exams and the projects, so they should not be given such a job, which is not there cup of tea. They do not have much experience of taking such decisions. Here are so many expert people available for deciding the courses curriculum. They do not have the knowledge of doing such things. And also if we see among 100 students 30 -40%of them are there to just get the degree they are not interested in any other thing. And also student should be kept away from such thing and let them concentrate on things which are useful to them.

I Conclude by saying that if required suggestion of student can be taken but the decision must be in hand of the faculty.

  7. Every horse need a rider, trainer....

yes we can say that Student should allowed to change the course content. but how can Student?? i mean student are still on learning process. they dnt know what to study to make them good manager. its the work of Experienced Person to do so.

Its the teacher who teach, not the student.
Student dnt know what to learn, they are fresher either.

However there should b authority on part of student to change the COURSE and not the content.

In race, Rider of horse hit Horse to move faster, at tht time horse dnt know y the rider beating him, and finally wins the race. so its the rider who know what to do. its not the horse who know what to do.

    hope u Guys understood.

so Students should be allowed to change the contents of their course , but there should be limit....
