Role of "Youth" against rampant Terrorism

9/11.. more than 30 Bomb blasts in India in less than 6 months.. 26/11 massacre.. Srilankan Cricket team.. lahore police camp.. and the list just wont stop. We accuse our neighbour, we blame politicians and our security system. We light candles and pray for peace for the victims of this terror. But, is this all that we can do?
Post your comment and your views suggesting a role that we, the youth, can play and fight this out of control terrorism.

  1. Terrorism... The biggest fear faced by most of the countries... Lighting candles and praying for the peace for the victims of terror is just a way to console but does it change anything..?? Is it not possible to stop terrorism..??? There is definitely a way to stop it... And the first step to fight against terrorism is change the political system of the country. And in that the youth plays a vvery important role. We need to replace the corrupted political leaders by young blood. The youth needs to actively participate in politics. A recent example of this is Srijan Pal Singh, an IIM-A student has chosen politics over placements. He had couple of offers in his hand but still he chose politics. The young generation needs to understand that we are the one who have the power to change the system.

  2. Terrorism is not new.even after being used quite often it is not easy to define.terrorism is a criminal act that influences an audience beyond a immediate victim. it is an act that intends to create fear.it is an unlawful violence.bieng an ordinary human being we may feel that we can do nothing to fight against terrorism. no it is not done .. we youth can fight against terrorism by simply refusing to be a victim.believe or not, we have a choice in that matter.the victims of terrorism are notonly those who get blown up during the initial acts but also those who get scared to move out after the terror attacks.if we are scared afterwards then act terrorism will be successful.by showing act of kindness, and changing the way they(terrorist) think.we should maintain friendly relation with all our countries and we should all be united so that even if they attack us we will able to defend together. The fight against terrorism can also be combated by developing a collective conscience of religious tolerance and focus on human right conscience.By spreading education of ahinsa and love for all creatures.lastly encourage our solidiers so that they find means to their sacrifice and decrease if possible eradicate corruption

  3. As we say..children learn from their elders...!!! The society wants the youth to contribute more towards the society.. BUT when i see the public elected representatives viz.,politicians doing no good but playing the blame game, making hatred speeches, being booked under scams and etc..How can we expect the youth to idolize them and play a major role to stop a menace like terrorism..??? Who r these terrorists? "Brainwashed Young lads"... I think its the government who at the first place be taking immediate steps towards the same. The youth are the driving force of the nation. Given a chance they can change the face of the nation. a simple example of Bhagat Singh who died for the country at a tender age of 24 . Without proper guidance and support from the seniors of the society/nation i don't think the youth stand a chance to do anything for the country..forget terrorism...!!!

  4. From fresh topic of Taj scam we get to know how youth & terrorism is so closely related to each other the terrorists involved & the NSG major unnikrishnan who died while fighting against them all were from 22- 28 years age group.
Not every one can become unnikrishanan but by simple means today’s youth can combat terrorism like,
    1. Observing the surrounding & tracking suspicious movements of people.
    2. getting un-noticed objects ,parcels kept public places for long time to the attention of police.
    3. asking for valid certificates from the people living on rent .

  5. I would love to post on this topic as i m emotionally attached to it. I agree to Ankit and Nehal. It certaining is possible to eliminate terrorism. "They and what army!".
We all see people talking about changing the system. choosing the right politicians.. blah blah. NIKHIL gave a very bare basic thing to do, which we all can do. Rajesh made a point abt government not backing people.
We should remember that Government, politicians, prime minister, President..etc, are all our servents, literally. They work just the way that we have accepted them. We talk abt changing the government and political parties.. I, rather, believe that no matter who is ruling, we can make them do their job right. As NEHAL said, if we get used to being suppressed, we are encouraging crime. There are quiet a few ways of making sure that politicians and the government do their joib right. before i say it, do u guys want to guess what they are???

  6. In the new millennium, we face the very real and increasing prospect that regional aggressor, third-rate armies, terrorist groups and even religious cults will seek to wield disproportionate power by acquiring and using weapons of mass destructions - Secretary Of Defense William Cohen Of U.S.A.

Terrorism is not about Muslims only and their quest for Jihad. Not all Muslims are terrorists and not all terrorists are Muslims. India's 140 million Muslims are a salutary negation of the facile thesis about Islam's incompatibility with democracy. The terrorists that we encounter today are not men who commit evil acts out of revenge.Only few Muslims believe that these phonies are fighting for any cause but their own. Hindus have stopped fulminating against terror despite the heavy toll it takes each time. For these terrorists who are invisible, they have no Agenda. They do it in the name of Jihad or some linguistic or religious cause, which a common man does not identify himself with.

Tough rhetoric and reactive government policies and Draconian acts like the POTA will not serve the cause for curbing such terrorism. It will only result in violation of human rights and engineer more youth to fall prey to such terrorist organisations. We have to break out of this trap that we have imposed on ourselves. Democratic politics, political freedoms, civil liberties and religious tolerance must be protected at all costs.

  7. In my previous posts, i spoke about thaings that we can do to get the government do what they r supposed to do. They are:
    1) RTI (Right To Information): The most effective tool every citizen of India possess, but shud use it as well. It can be filed for any government action and the goverment has to respond to ur query within 48 hours, else it stands as a case against them in Supreme court. e.g.: u see a road dug and work not being done.. File an RTI and they have to answer ur query or start with the work within 48 hours. Not just this, if u want to have a look at the balance sheet of any railway project.. File an RTI and u shall get it in 48 hours. ITS POWERFUL.
There a young chap in Ahmedabad, who runs RTI on wheel, an office in a van and has filed thousands of RTI.
I think, I hope and I wish that every youth should file RTI against anythng that it feels is going wrong. its easy, can be done by spending mere 60 bucks and effective. :)

  8. Does terrorism only mean bomb blasts and killing of people??? There's religious discrimination which is causing a lot of terror in the society itself. India is a democratic country with a hybrid culture. MNS chief Raj Thakre making a statement that if one wants to stay in maharashta, he must be maharashtrian or atleast have to speak in marathi. There were riots and maharashtra was closed for an entire day. If we fight amongst ourselves, why will the outsiders not take advantage of this??? One of the best solutions is communicative with people, and understanding each other. We have to discuss about the reasons of making terror, and try to stop it! Television is the best media to change minds of people. We can also spread posters and brochures against terrorism to affect people's opinion.

  9. Day by Day the terrorism is increasing and we are not able to trace the victims there is a need for Special Forces to come into action to identify it. As recently heard the case of Taj Hotel, blast in Trains now is the time for an action .The youths while traveling by trains or while loitering around the hotel lobbies if they find any suspicious objects it they must inform the Police if they find any suspicious objects.. They must also verify the Luggage racks and the seats in the buses and trains before sitting.

Youth may also prepare some Skits to make students aware in order to make them also familiarize with these things Youth may also organize various campaign or street plays in vernacular or local languages in order to make people aware about the disastrous consequences of terrorism so that they can inform the local authorities

  10. Hi In my opinion people should be more vigilant while dealing with the problem of terrorism especially the youth as they are the ones who regularly hang out in most of the public places succesptible to terror. As said my some of my friends in this discussion youth should organize Small educational skits and plays on the road side to educate the people. The youth can play their part by joining the defence or even setting up their own defence activities.they can educate the people about self defence. They can even join an NGO and help out the people in Fighting terrorism.

  11. I feel that if the YOUTH of INDIA can bring about changes in the lifestyle, clothes, habits, mannerisms, etc. as per the changing trends in the world;then they have the rights, responsiblity and duty to take actions against the ongoing terrorism...They should be ready to fight against such atrocities...

  12. I hear everyone saying that we need "youth" in politics...
I agree too but i doubt if most of the youth who want to join politics have a non-corrupt agenda behind them joining it.

People are angry and frustrated but we need to harness that anger and get something productive out of it.

Even if the "youth" join politics do you think it would be an easy job to make a difference in the completely corrupt political system that feeds on our taxes and doesn't care a damn about what happens to the citizens??

Do you think that the already well established politicians will readily allow you to come into the limelight and take away the most important facet of their lives - the "chair"??

Our country is knee deep in corruption & the "chalta hai" attitude that just with the "youth" joining politics will not make a big difference. We need something more!!

We lack patriotism & if there is someone who cares enough for the country to make a difference the present politicians will make it a point to get "rid" of them.

So now...."where do we stand", "what can we do" & most importantly "how can we make a difference?"

  13. We wonder how humans could kill themselves and innocent people, believing they are doing this in the name of God. But terrorism is not new and exists everywhere.

terrorists have come from social protest groups, and political movements. many of the terrorists have been poor and uneducated, (as per past experience). but the fact is ALL ARE YOUNG. so YOUNGSTER play a very vital role in combating TERRORISM.

its the concern government should look in this matter tht youth is not attracted toward such unlawful things.

on other hand, TERRORISM means to spread terror, HERE youth also play a vital role, youth is the major traveler, YOUTH shld keep an eye on suspect thing rather run away frm tht place, they shld inform cops for the same. am not asking them to keep eye on city as a whole, but can keep eye in their society, in the area where they live. this alone can help a LOT.

  14. youth can make it difference by taking active part in politics and social awareness,

  15. I completely agree with Natasha, her point is really exceptionally well infact while reading all above posts, i also thought the same. what is the Guarantee that Young leaders (Politician) doesnt have corruption in mind.

we can see that all young Political leaders are the son/daughter of current Political leader. any way its not the topic to discuss.

the topic is terrorism & role of youth against it. terrorism is the problem which is faced globally, its not like that only our country is facing it. (I request our moderators to keep the Topic " Terrorism & Global Community")

its the responsibilty of every one to observe our surroundings, helping the Police, every time we blame to our security system which is not the solution to this. we should be alert in all ways like Nikhil said. My dear friends we cant perform the role of Security force.

youth can chage the mind set of our society which will be very great work done for this problem.

And we must not blindly follow the political parties statements or infact our media which is giving irresponsible conclusions.

  16. What most people have mentioned is that we should keep an eye on our surrounding and it will help us to a great extent but what we have failed to mention is how youth can help eradicate terrorism from its root. One of the major reasons why terrorism exists and thrives is because there is a sect within the society who feel they do not get what deserve - be it attention, money, help or that they have not been treated well. This was true for the Indo-Pak partition generation. What has happened after that is some of these people got so involved in extracting revenge that they lost track of logic and did not realise that they were doing it themselves. These people started to instil extremists values in their children and so on. This resulted in brainwashing of the new generation.

I think one of the major things that we need to achieve is providing better education and facilities to the people who are prone to being brainwashed. This can be done by the governments of the countries to prevent their citizen from being involved in such activities. For the countries that are not ready to implement these measures, the responsibility falls on the educated class of that country. NGOs and NPOs can encourage the participation of the youth in this revolution because the young would rather listen to the youth than elders.

These measures will take time to show its positive effects but should surely help the next generation.

  18. i do not think fault of our govt.or politicians i personally thought that the problem in our generation. because the govt. give full chance to select our politicians so why we choose wrong persons like corrupts and who have already criminal record. And about terrorism few day we worried about it after it we forget what happen that day in our country. So i think we should have become active and after then we will able to blame other persons
