  1. A Manager is the person responsible for planning and directing the work of a group of individuals, monitoring their work, and taking corrective action when necessary
To become a successful manager ,he must be creative ,dedication and commitment to his work, good relationship with employees, and should take right decision.
Manager must share company goals and expectation with staff so they will perform in better way. Managers must trust employees in letting them carry out the task assigned.
Manager should teach their staff how to carry out their task.
Managers must know strength and weaknesses .employees should be given opportunities to show their strength, and advise them on how to resolve their weaknesses.
Managers must also guide their staff to take initiatives, also encourage them to make decisions on their own
Employees must be appreciated by their managers on performing their tasks ,THIS WILL BUID CONFIDENCE AND EMPLOYEES WILL BE MOTIVATED.

  2. Rather than zeroing in on a single quality of an effective manager we must take into account an all-round and all-encompassing persona of him or her. Any one quality would definitely not catapult anyone to one's efficacy. And when it comes to managing, what one expects is a concoction of all the attributes and not just a single source of power and excellence. So I think a grading of the qualities is required and not a choice.

The first and foremost thing on my agenda to be a successful manager would be to have a funnel-like nature. As the device does so should a manager be able to absorb as many ideas as possible and then choose accordingly what is propitious for the task in hand.

Even though a manager may be at a level higher than some of the crew, he must not forget that he is a part of the team. And being at the higher step of the ladder he has to make sure that the base is firm and rigid. The creation of an ambience of business-like comfort in which all those who are following him find it easy enough to approach him with their ideas whenever they have one is the responsibility that he should shoulder. Also it is equally important, to put forth the ideas and consensus the manager has reached in front of the higher authorities. At the end of the day what one should keep in mind is that all are working towards a common goal and not toiling for an individual objective.

So, in my point of view, the quality of being a good listener and a better executioner are the pre-requisites that top the list.

  4. A quality may be defined as a skill required by an individual to carry out his responsibilities effectively and efficiently.

A manager carries out management functions life planning, organizing, staffing directing and controlling. All these functions are carried on in his day to day business and in conjunction with other responsibilities.

Hence for a manager just 1 quality cant be of the utmost importance or rather cant say if a manger is good or bad just because he has a particular quality or not.

Managing involves motivating the team to perform, coordinating various resources and planning as to when and how and who will use these limited resources to achieve the team goals and subsequently the company goals in the most efficient way.

For all this a manager must possess varied skills and qualities like team building, organizing, quick decision making, motivating, analyzing, foreseeing and to some extent leadership too.

All these qualities play a major role in helping the manager carry out his job and work in sync with each other. Hence a manager is made up of a lot of soft skill qualities and one cannot brand just one quality as the most effective one.

  7. manager being a important link between an entrepreneur and the employees he must have both qualities of being a good, patient listener as well as an efficient friendly dictator. while he has to follow orders from his seniors he must be able to show this creativity, innovative thinking every time given a chance.
according to me he should be imaginative, creative and should have respect for feed backs from his employee or seniors and should have ability to keep learning new things.

  8. i believe that a goal oriented compassionate manager will suceed in any business, coroporation or industry.
Change is constant in all fields it may be in computers, software, product engineering, manufacturing ,marketing or training of human resources.
The manger not only needs to have flexibility to this change but properly instill its necessity to the subordinates he is supervising
What is of essence is that the manager shows the way to the lake with soft and hard skills . Soft skills are understanding how the goal is to be formulated and executed, seeing how well it is understood within the group and then finally monitored at each stage to ensure fullfilment of the set target with efficacy and at the right time.
at the same time he has to be firm so the no 1 takes it easy.... for this good communication skills. tactics, patience , convincing power are necessary requisites.
I agree with tushar that grading not choice is essential However a variegated array of these qualities will ensure that all the stakeholders will benefit or be complacent....

  9. According to me a good manager is someone who can distribute the given task by delegating responsibilities wisely and thereby ensure its completion. Hence the most effective quality of a manager would be a clarity in thought and understanding of what he is expected to deliver, making optimum use of the alloted resources.
For example, within a Marketing department, a Brand Manager will often control all aspects of marketing of a particular brand like product development and packaging design, advertising, distribution and sales. He has to be perfectly clear about his company's objectives and goals, and must assign different tasks to those people who have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience, or train people to do them. If he were to micromanage all the duties, he would be unnecessarily burdened and his team would be under-utilized, leading to an unproductive outcome.

  10. I think the MANAGERs most effective QUALITY is to get the faith of his team members if he does so then its like winning a Half battle for getting 100% efforts from his team members.

I want to give my personal example,'when I joined at Godrej my manager said, look Tushar our organisation belives on Hardwork & your involvement in your work and one more important thing you are free to do 3 mistakes in your work because if u r doing something new then there are many chances of doing mistakes and I am there to help u & to support u Now go ahead' I followed his words in my work, without doing more than 3 mistakes, leading to Productive work. This is how he belived on me & I belived on him.

And the second important quality of manager is to give FREEDOM to his team members while carrying out their work, just ask them this is what I want & this much of time we have, if we avhieve this its benefical to our organisation.

Take another example, I was in night shift at Godrej, my one night shift machine operator was absent, I asked another Operator to wait for Overtime informing him that its important to run this machine in Night Shift otherwise we cant dispatch one set of Wind mills components by Tomorrow leading to Rs. 14 lakhs loss. His reply was very different & shocking he said, 'if u allow me to sleep 2.5 hours during Night, then only I will wait otherwise I am leaving' I just thought for a minute and gave permission to him taking calculated risk. Next morning my boss asks me,'that operator was working for whole night or what? I asked him why sir? he told me that he has done wotk of 10 hours in just 6 hours' (My boss conidered normal shift time that is 6 hours as I kept secret of 2.5 hours with me only)
The learnig lesson for me is to give the freedom to your team members they will devote their 100%, take your decision timely.

So from my experience I can say the essential quality of Manager is, "ABILITY TO TAKE EACH DECISION TIMELY, WINNING THE FAITH & GIVING FREEDOM TO HIS TEAM, THEY WILL PERFORM EXCELLENTLY GIVING THEIR 100%"

  12. Let’s resemble a manager with a salad. a salad needs many ingredients to add taste to it & to make it exotic. It is mixture of tastes same as a manager is a well balanced mixture of qualities.
The first ingredient is Perspective, that is "the ability and desire to see the wider picture" — What business are we in and what need are we meeting? What macro factors can and have an impact on us? One should have six eyes around him and 360-degree vision to get a wider picture.
The second ingredient is Inspiring nature. We expect our leaders to be enthusiastic, energetic and positive about the future. We expect them to be inspiring. Having an inspiring leader can make work more meaningful.
The third ingredient is Motivation. People perform at their best when they are happy and motivated. A manager that understands his or her employees can set challenging yet achievable goals and rewards in a variety of ways. People can be motivated by being part of an effective team, by the knowledge that their hard work will be recognized and appreciated.
The fourth ingredient Information is essential for an articulate and convincing communication. Anything that you do or say should be backed by qualitative and quantitative data. Information is required for macro and micro views of the entire picture.
The fifth ingredient is maturity. It is the intellect to analyze the situation & to see from the each person’s point of view.
The sixth ingredient is Delegation. An effective manager understands the skills and abilities of his or her staff, and knows how to delegate. Effective delegation is selecting the right person to do the work, given the constraints of skill requirements and time. It includes setting clear guidelines and expectations.
The seventh ingredient is Adaptability. The business environment is an ever-changing. All managers must be able to quickly adjust, understanding the implications of the changes and adjusting goals and strategies accordingly. An adaptable manager sets an example to his/her employees and leads the way in demonstrating new ways of working and/or behaving.
There are some spices which gives delightful flavors are Supportive, Broad-minded, Intelligent, Fair-minded, Dependable, Courageous, Co-operative, Imaginative, Caring, Determined, Self-controlled and Independent.
And to add the taste a pinch of salt means aggressiveness is required. Here comes the best manager.

  14. I agree with Tushar the most important quality in manager is 'Quick decision making' as he said his manager showed confidence in him which led to his decision making in letting the employee sleep for some time and letting the secret to him which not just benefitted in work quality and quantity benefitting the company but also his relations with the employee.

Apart from prerequsite quality of quick decision making manager also need to have othe r important qualities like good communication skills, good listener and good dictator,a calculative mind.He should energetic and enthusistic and should be willing to take responsibility. He should be clear of the subject and should be of humble and friendly nature so that he could create happy work atmosphere.

Good team building skills and innovative ideas of motivating the employees and keeping their moral high is what a good successful manager requires. He should appreciate the employee on his success...

  17. To put it in a nutshell, the management skills and the confidence about one's own abilities, make him/her a good manager. The managerial skills matter most. What are they? Actually it is a skill set that consists of leadership, decision-making abilities, an understanding nature and confidence to top them all. Thorough knowledge in one's domain, expertise in one's field, effective strategic planning skills and foresight make a good manager. The person within the manager is equally important. As a person, a good manager is understanding and considerate. A good manager is able to differentiate between the right and the wrong. He/She knows where to play the stickler for rules as also times when he/she needs to be considerate. The combination of an understanding person and an intelligent professional makes a good manager. some of the more qualities are, :

COMMUNICATION SKILL, shld use clear and concise language to instruct and direct. shld maintain eye to eye contact.

LEADERSHIP is one of the vital qualities of a good manager. A good manager is often seen exercising effective leadership in the organization. By effective and fair leadership we mean the skills to guide the team members, to encourage them towards attainment of the organization’s goals and take the right decisions at the right point of time.

MUST B COOL AT THE TIME OF DIFFICULTIES, Being able to keep one’s cool in all kinds of situations is a trait seen in a good manager. An enthusiastic and optimistic manager is capable of remaining calm in all types of scenarios.

must all posses Emotional Intelligence which includes self awareness, social awareness, self management and empathy.

a slightly hilarious , Manager shld b able to Manage Peers - Look Foolish but be Intelligent. No one likes to be with a super-smart peer.
ALSO, must Be creative and deliver upto expectations at any cost. be Fair and always clean handed. Make the team feel and look succesful always, build and guard team's reputation. must Trust the team and be trust-worthy. must Respect and be respectable.

However, having these traits and skills won’t guarantee your success as a manager, bt will give you a better chance to do the job effectively.

  19. A manager should be first a leader than only he will have the technique of decision making which is his prime responsibility in the company. Manager should have the skill to give the right responsibility to the right person and he should always stand by his subordinates and juniors to help them guide them in difficult situations. If he maintains good relationship with his subrdinates than they will feel good and more confident which is and will be for hard which will eventually be beneficial for the organization and that's what the manager's duty is.
