Software professionals have no social life.

  1. In my opinion, one of the biggest drawback or maybe an advantage that a software professional has, is that they can take work home without any issues. They are usually provided with all facilities to do so. This adds pressure on these professionals to deliver on time. Thus work extends into their time which otherwise would have been reserved for their social life. But if the person tries to maintain a distinction between the time spend on professional and personal activities then it may help.

Another aspect is that a software professional is exposed to the virtual world more than others and they may prefer this alternate life instead and their social life stays limited to chat rooms, social networking sites or virtual worlds. We have seen and heard of many cases in USA wherein people committed suicide when they realised they liked the virtual avatar of themselves better than the real one.

  2. In today’s world there is a lot of competition. The one who, performs better gets increment in salary, promotions & incentives. If you are not working up to the mark then employers show you door. In this tight packed position you can not lag behind by crying foul that I don’t have my personal life. In software company you get 2 days off a week. There you have to manage the time slots. For eg: while returning home on Friday you can book a dinner table & call your family at place. You have to find the golden point for the situation.

  3. It is true that today there is a lot of competition, but who has created this competition? definitely not by God or any other external forces (evil). This extreme competition is created by us only. It is not only Software professionals but also banking, manufactiring & service industries professionals are facing this prblem.
Theoretically we say, we have 5 days working but it is not true my dear friends.
I dont undersatnd what we are showing by waiting after our normal duty hours? See every one has his own endurance limit beyond which he cant give his 100%, then whats the use of waiting after 8 hrs work.
Its our mentality that we are afraid of others, see my dear friends everyone thinks that,"He is waiting, therefore i need to wait otherwise I will not get Incentives" See if u r able to give perform ur work within ur time schedule then its not required to wait.
Then this extra time we can give to our family & for other social activities.

Here I want to make one more point, by waiting extra time actually we are utilising more resources than that of our Output. So it is neither beneficial to Employee nor to Emplyer and society.

The solution to this problem is, its required to change our mentality, philosophy or in our term COMPETITION and YES We can change.

  4. Hard work will lead u to success--- a old proverb
staying alive in software job is really Tough.

Some of the reason why they cant make it possible to have good social life are--

Stress levels are unbelievable high. Stress management is a cover topic in magazines and newspapers and workshops on the subject are regularly overbooked.

A majority of IT people suffer from health problems. As most of the IT workforce is still very young, the problem isn’t very obvious today but it will hit with unbearable ferocity when these youngsters get to their 40s.

Plush offices, fat salaries and latest gizmos can give you happiness only if you have a life in the first place.

The software professional Indian is today making more money in a month than what his parents might have made in an year. Very often a 21 year old newbie software developer makes more money than his/her 55 year old father working in an old world business. Most of these youngsters are well aware of this gap and so work under an impression that they are being paid an unreasonable amount of money. They naturally equate unreasonable money with unreasonable amount of work.

This is how it make impossible for making good social life, is this the only MONEY?? MAY B......

  5. i want to add 1 more point to this topic that software professional has advntage that they can take extra project to do at home after their working hours in office. But i see this advantage as a drawback because in this they forget that they have their personal life also and only to make money is not enough to make family happy.Even somtime they get frustrated frm their work and thus it create a scene in a family such as argument, fighting, taunting etc.
Thus they forget that there is their personal life also
